Weather Update

GRITS’ inclement weather operating procedures are intended to provide safe and reliable transportation for customers and generally follow established county school policies governing the operation of school bus service under severe weather conditions.

Severe winter weather, however, imposes additional safety concerns for our customers. For instance, in times of severe weather, sidewalks and/or curb cuts may be uncleared or otherwise impassable. Likewise, after heavy snowfall, loading or unloading wheelchairs may be difficult or impossible due to curb-side snow banks or unplowed subdivision streets.

When weather conditions do not allow safe transport, outbound trips are discontinued and only return trips are provided. Customers may call for the latest update on the availability of our services. It is the policy of GRITS to attempt to operate all life sustaining trips such as dialysis and heart drips.  Services offered for Owensboro Transit System’ clients will follow OTS policy and procedures.

For additional information please call our office at 270-686-1651 or 800-816-3511.
