Providing safe reliable professional human service transportation is our goal. GRITS coordinates with various agencies to facilitate transportation. Listed below are some of our programs and their guidelines.

Daviess County Community Based Services

  GRITS provides transportation to recipients approved by the DCBS case worker. Services under contract with DCBS operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and are limited within the Green River area. The casework is required to provide five(5) business days notice. In most cases where minor children are involved, male and female drivers are required to provide transportation. Services are provided for events such as court appointments, counseling, doctor and therapy visits and school.

Foster Grandparent Program

  The FGP serves youthful clients who may be abused, neglected, ill, disturbed, or otherwise in need of intensive, special, caring attention from an adult. FGP "grannies" and "grandads" serve one-on-one with their assigned children. They may tutor, counsel, assist, guide and help them in a variety of other ways. Volunteers serve in schools, hospitals, shelters, Head Start, and other child-serving facilities, providing their service under the direction and supervision of professional staff. GRITS

General Public Transportation

GRITS is a non-profit agency that provides transportation services to regions where there are no other public transportation options. GRITS is committed to providing safe dependable service when it is feasible and in some cases fiscally responsible. GRITS is not in the business of competing with other for-profit enterprise businesses; therefore, in counties where public transportation is accessible, the agency forwards requested services to all other options. For other regions, GRITS provides services at a reasonable charge on an as-available basis. Advanced notice is required.

The rates are as follows: (Effective: July 1, 2005)

  Coverage Range Rates (one way)
   In-County   $1.10 per mile
   Beyond Green River Counties  $1.50 per mile
   Minimum fare $4.00

Henderson Area Rapid Transit

HART is a mass public transportation provider. Operating within the city limits of Henderson, HART offers both fixed-route as well as paratransit services. Next day service is available for paratransit. Call HART for more details.

Medicaid Transportation

GRITS is the regional transportation subcontractor for  Region #3. As a subcontractor of Region #3, GRITS can provide all Medicaid trips in the Green River Area. The service is available to eligible recipients at no charge. Services are provided from Monday-Friday 6:00am-8:00pm and Saturday 8:00am-1:00pm. An advanced notice of 72 hours is required. For clients with disability, GRITS provides a door-to-door service.

Owensboro Transit System

OTS is a mass public transportation provider. Operating within the city limits of Owensboro, OTS offers fixed-route services. For OTS certified clients, OTS coordinates with GRITS to provide curb-to-curb paratransit services. Services are provided from Monday-Saturday 6:00am-6:00pm. Senior Companion Program

  Senior Companions" are stipend limited income persons age 60 or older. SCPs may receive travel and meal assistance and are covered for accident or injury through a comprehensive insurance program. SCPs serve other adults needing special attention and support while remaining in their own home, thus preventing institutionalization and thus saving the families and federal/state budgets. SCPs assist their adult "clients" independent living in a variety of supportive ways. SCPs are not maids or medical care professionals. SCPs do however, work in tandem with health care professionals and social service agencies to fulfill care plans for clients. Clients also enjoy the personal satisfaction of their own home, a greater sense of independence, continued purpose, and a deep sense of maintained dignity. Other household caretakers, when present, also benefit from SCPs providing them respite from those responsibilities. SCP coordinates with GRITS for facilitates transportation for the companions. SCP program follow the county school weather guidelines.

Title III -Daviess County

Under contract with Title III, GRITS provides transportation to recipients approved by the Aging Coordinators in each counties. Normally, clients arrange transportation needs by calling our office during our business hours Monday thru Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm. Once services are scheduled (24-hours in advance), GRITS will coordinate services. Currently GRITS operates the Title III in the following counties: Hancock, Henderson,  Webster and Union.
